Empowering Women - 5 Crore Free 'LPG Connections' to Poor Women. Target achieved today, 8 months ahead of Deadline.

In a Historic moment Modi Government fulfills its biggest promise of Empowering Women & Poor.

India has around  24 Crore households out of which about 10 Crore households were still deprived of LPG as cooking fuel and had to rely on firewood, coal, dung-cakes etc. as primary source of cooking till 2016.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on May 1st, 2016 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. Under this scheme, 5 Cr LPG connections will be provided to BPL families with a support of Rs.1600 per connection in the next 3 years. Ensuring women’s empowerment, especially in rural India, the connections will be issued in the name of women of the households. Rs. 8000 Cr. has been allocated towards the implementation of the scheme. Identification of the BPL families will be done through Socio Economic Caste Census Data.

On Feb, 7th, 2018, Cabinet has approved to enhance of the target of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) from 5 Crore to 8 Crore with an additional allocation of Rs. 4,800 crore. The decision comes in the wake of huge response to Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana(PMUY) from the women particularly in rural areas and to cover such households not having LPG connection. The revised target of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will be achieved by 2020.

So far, nearly 4.99 crore poor families in 715 districts have already received free cooking gas connection. Under the scheme, the government gives security deposit for a cylinder and regulator to the oil companies on behalf of the customer, subscriber have to pay for the gas prices only.

Top 5 States in PMUY connections allotment.

Uttar Pradesh : 87,62,730 LPG connections
West Bengal : 61,28,696 LPG connections
Bihar : 60,68,909 LPG connections
Madhya Pradesh : 45,27,254 LPG connections
Rajasthan : 37,31,289 LPG connections

(Number of PMUY connections released as on 02-08-2018)
State vise Full detailed list could be downloaded from (http://www.pmujjwalayojana.com/released-connections.html)

This is also to be noted that Total of 10 crore LPG connections have given in 4 years against 13 crore in 6 decades since independence as PM Narendra Modi said on 28-May-2018 in a program in which he interacted through video-conference with some of the women beneficiaries of Ujjwala.

As per World LPG Association (WLPGA) analysis in 2017, India has already become the second (2nd) largest domestic LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) consumer in the world due to the Narendra Modi government's rapid rollout of clean fuel plan for poor households and fuel subsidy reforms.

Ujjwala success makes India world's 2nd largest LPG importer of LPG (Liquefied Petrolium Gas) after China. Household demand for clean cooking fuel have been increased by 8% in 2017-18.

With almost 4.99 crore PMUY connections distributed, Modi Government will very soon fulfil its commitment to one of the biggest promises of providing 5 Crores LPG Cylinders free of Cost under PM Ujjwala Yojana. Target completed 8 months ahead of target we had set earlier. Henceforth, our Mother's and Sister's will have a improved quality of life and a genuine step towards Women Empowerment.
